For designers: selection and calculation of protective coatings for the design documentation

The protective coatings section of a design is often done last and in a hurry, and its mistakes surface only on site: the material is unavailable, the thickness is insufficient, a substitution cannot be approved. We take this part of the work off your hands — we select the solution, do the calculations, prepare the wording and respond to comments, while the design remains yours.

How we help designers

  • Selecting a solution for the project. Corrosion protection, fire protection, chemical-resistant coating and waterproofing systems to suit the site conditions, the project codes and the client’s requirements.
  • Calculation of fire protection thicknesses from the steelwork schedule. The reduced metal thickness of each section, the required fire resistance rating, and the thickness and consumption of the material.
  • Wording for the design documentation. Descriptions of the coating systems for the general notes, schedules and specifications — tailored to your project, on request.
  • Equivalent substitution of materials. If the specified material is unavailable or too expensive, we select alternatives and prepare a comparison for approval.
  • Review of the coatings section. Before it is issued to the client, we check the compatibility of the coats, the surface preparation, the thicknesses and the application and inspection requirements.
  • Seminars for design departments. Corrosion protection, fire protection, chemical protection and waterproofing, with an analysis of typical mistakes. More about the seminars.

What to send

  • the steelwork schedule or a specification of the sections;
  • the required fire resistance ratings and the codes to which the project is being designed;
  • service conditions: indoors or outdoors, temperature, humidity, chemical exposure;
  • the required service life of the coatings;
  • the client’s or main contractor’s requirements for materials and documentation, if any.

If some data is missing, that is not a problem: we will tell you what to clarify with the client or the process engineer.

What you will receive

  • a coating system with the number of coats, thicknesses and surface preparation requirements;
  • a calculation of fire protection thicknesses by section and a schedule of materials;
  • text for the design documentation in Russian or English;
  • 2–3 material options from different manufacturers, with a comparison;
  • responses to the client’s comments on the coatings.

Free express review of a project section

We review the protective coatings section of your project free of charge and in any scope — from a single detail or steel schedule to the whole package: fire protection, corrosion protection, chemical protection, equipment grouting. We check whether the materials suit the service conditions, whether the coats are compatible, and whether thicknesses, surface preparation, application conditions and inspection are specified. In return you receive a list of comments and suggestions.

Online selectors for an initial assessment

The selectors show the system type and materials from the catalogue: corrosion protection, fire protection, grouts. An engineer will prepare the exact scheme and calculation for your project.

Standards and material data

Summary tables of the requirements of Uzbekistan, Russia, the EU, the USA and the Middle East are in the “Fire protection standards” section. Material properties from the manufacturers’ official technical data sheets are in the catalogue.
