Andijan Region is the easternmost part of the Fergana Valley and, according to the national climate communication (2024), the most densely populated region in the country. A base for automotive and mechanical engineering has developed here, and the region’s official priorities include textiles, fruit and vegetable processing and a logistics complex on the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway corridor. Large assembly and metalworking plants, textile mills, warehouses and logistics bases near the border with Kyrgyzstan pose specific engineering questions for protective coatings — from fire protection of the ventilation of paint shops to grouting of heavy presses in a seismically active area.
Mechanical engineering and assembly plants
A large plant for assembly and the production of components is not one building but a set of zones with different risks.
- Welding and assembly halls. Large spans, overhead cranes, dense cable routing. The frame is protected with fire protection to the design requirements, and cable routes and wall crossings with cable coatings and fire-rated penetration seals.
- Paint shops. Solvents and paint deposits in ducts increase the fire hazard of extract systems. Transit ducts and smoke extraction systems are protected with fire protection mats and boards with a confirmed fire resistance rating.
- Surface pretreatment lines. Degreasing and phosphating tanks, washers, dryers: hot steam, alkaline and acidic solutions, constant humidity. Steelwork above and around the line works as if in a chemical plant — a chemical-resistant system is needed here, not a standard enamel.
- Press and machining areas. Heavy presses and machine tools transmit impacts and vibration to the foundation — they need an epoxy grout with precise alignment of the equipment.
- The plant’s energy centre. Compressed air compressors, chillers, boilers and transformer rooms: vibrating units on grout, cable ducts and penetrations that are sealed with fire-resistant materials where they leave the room.
It is most convenient when the protection scheme is drawn up by zone from the outset: then the contractor does not apply one and the same system both in a dry assembly hall and above a phosphating tank, and the client does not overpay where a simple solution is enough.
Seismicity: grouting and anchors by calculation
The regional Department for Emergency Situations explicitly classes Andijan Region among the seismically active regions, and an individual seismic risk map of the region has been built using data from the 1902 Andijan earthquake (reviewed in Ismailov et al., 2024). Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 727 of 17.11.2025 assigns Andijan itself, Asaka and a number of other districts to the intensity 9 zone on the MSK-64 scale, and the remaining districts of the region to intensity 8. For foundations and equipment fixings this means that the loads on anchors and baseplates are set by the designer, taking seismic actions into account, and the materials are chosen to suit this calculation:
- anchors in existing concrete are installed with injection resins whose European Technical Assessment confirms performance in cracked concrete and under seismic actions — for more detail, see the anchoring page;
- the grout under baseplates must fill the gap completely, without voids: under seismic and vibration loads the load must not be transmitted through isolated points;
- for high racking, tanks and multi-level process structures, the joint action of anchor, grout and foundation is particularly important.
Textiles, food production, warehouses
Spinning, weaving and sewing mills carry a high fire load from fibre, yarn and finished goods, so fire protection of frames and cable runs is best built into the design from the very beginning rather than added after comments from the supervisory authority. In food and fruit and vegetable processing workshops, steel works in humidity and with frequent washing — epoxy systems with a topcoat resistant to cleaning agents are selected for it. Warehouses and logistics complexes near the border are above all about fire protection of steel frames and selecting the type of fire protection for racked storage.
Climate of the eastern part of the valley
The climate here is continental: hot summers, cool winters with frosts, and most of the precipitation in the cold half of the year. The extremes are notable, though: in July 2026 the Andijan station recorded 43.0 °C — above the previous record from 1977 (42.1 °C), and in January 1969 the frost reached −28.2 °C (Uzhydromet). Seasonal floods and mudflows on the rivers periodically damage irrigation systems and settlements, which matters for concrete water management structures. For exposed steel the guide figure for the environment category is, as a rule, C3–C4; for a specific site it is checked to ISO 9223 or ISO 12944-2. The shoulder seasons, with damp weather and cold nights, are the time to monitor the dew point during painting and fire protection work.
Working with projects in Andijan and the districts
We bring materials to Andijan, Asaka and other towns in the region, and coordinate the volume and schedule with erection or repair work. For plants we prepare painting and fire protection specifications by zone, calculate thicknesses, and run seminars for maintenance departments and contractors. On request we also work with projects in neighbouring Kyrgyzstan — taking into account that country’s documentation requirements.
In the neighbouring regions of the valley the climate is similar but the industry is different: see Fergana Region and Namangan Region, as well as all regions.
Questions from Andijan Region
Does the ductwork of a paint shop need fire protection?
If the duct passes through fire barriers or is part of a smoke extraction system, the required fire resistance rating is set by the design — and it is confirmed with a material tested on ducts, not with an ordinary fire protection paint for steel.
What should a press be grouted with?
As a rule, with an epoxy grout designed for impact loads, in compliance with the press manufacturer’s requirements for the gap and the alignment procedure. The details depend on the mass, the frequency of impacts and the design of the foundation.
Which coating will withstand the steam and solutions above a phosphating line?
A chemical-resistant system selected according to the composition of the solutions, their temperature and the washing regime. Send us the list of chemicals used in the questionnaire — based on it we will choose the material and thickness and point out which details need to be protected particularly carefully.
