Fire protection, anti-corrosion and grouts in Uzbekistan’s regions

Design codes in Uzbekistan are the same for the whole country, but the conditions in which coatings have to work are not. In the south, steel in the summer sun gets so hot that painting is moved to the morning and evening; in the Aral Sea region, salt dust settles on structures; in the oases, foundations stand in saline water; in the valleys, equipment supports are exposed to seismic loads. Industry differs too: gas processing, mining and metallurgy, chemicals, power generation, mechanical engineering and agro-processing place different demands on protection. On the regional pages we have gathered what is worth knowing about each region before a material is chosen.

Regions

  • Tashkent City — high-rise and public buildings, car parks, fire protection of the frame and building services, winter work, adaptation of foreign designs.
  • Tashkent Region — mining and metallurgy, chemicals, power generation, cement: aggressive atmospheres at industrial sites, chemical protection, grouting of heavy equipment.
  • Andijan Region — mechanical engineering and assembly plants, textiles, warehouses near the border; anchoring and grouting in a seismic area.
  • Bukhara Region — oil and gas facilities in the desert: fire protection to the hydrocarbon curve, tanks, pipelines, grouts under compressors.
  • Jizzakh Region — new production facilities in industrial zones and the pumping stations of Mirzachul: protection built in at the design stage.
  • Kashkadarya Region — gas processing and gas chemicals, power plants: specifications to international standards, corrosion under insulation.
  • Navoi Region — mining and chemical enterprises in the Kyzylkum: application in the desert, acidic and alkaline media.
  • Namangan Region — cold stores and fruit and vegetable warehouses, light industry, residential and public buildings.
  • Samarkand Region — hotels and public buildings with exposed steel and timber, textiles, metallurgy, electrical engineering, food processing.
  • Surkhandarya Region — the hottest region in the south: the application window, ultraviolet, warehouses and terminals, crane rails.
  • Syrdarya Region — thermal power generation: cable structures, flue gas ducts, grouting of turbine sets; concrete in saline soils.
  • Fergana Region — oil refining, nitrogen chemicals, cement and glass, textiles; repair of protection at operating units.
  • Khorezm Region — an oasis with shallow saline groundwater, frosty winters, humid workshops at textile mills.
  • Republic of Karakalpakstan — salt from the dried-up bed of the Aral Sea on steel and in concrete, gas chemicals, repairable systems for remote facilities.

Why “by region” is only a starting point

The region suggests what to ask about, but it does not give a ready-made answer. The corrosivity of the atmosphere depends on the specific site: neighbouring plants, the proximity of roads and bodies of water, the humidity regime of the premises, spills of process media. That is why we give the environment category for exposed steel only as a guide — “as a rule, C3–C4, to be confirmed to ISO 9223/ISO 12944-2 for the specific facility” — and never as a characteristic of an entire region. Where a coating is exposed to acids, alkalis or solvents, an ISO category is of no use at all — the system is selected using the questionnaire for chemical-resistant coatings.

The same applies to fire protection. The designer takes the fire resistance requirements for structures from ShNK 2.01.02-04 (for an overview, see the codes of Uzbekistan section), while the region influences the choice of material and the method of application: whether a water-based paint can be applied in that season, whether the coating will withstand outdoor conditions, whether a system tested to the hydrocarbon curve is needed.

What to send so that the solution takes local conditions into account

  • the address or district of the site and what is nearby: plants, roads, bodies of water;
  • the service conditions of the structure: in a heated building, under a canopy or outdoors, contact with water, soil or product, the operating temperature;
  • site investigation data on soils and groundwater — for foundations, underground structures and grouts;
  • the required fire resistance ratings and the service life of the coatings;
  • when and where the coatings will be applied: at the steel fabrication plant or during erection, and at what time of year.

For an initial assessment there are online selectors: fire protection, corrosion protection, grouts. The scheme, calculations and documents for a specific project are prepared by an engineer — find out more about this service in the “Engineering” section.

Supply and site visits

We supply materials to all regions of Uzbekistan, as well as to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan — the list of cities is on the “Delivery area” page. We carry out calculations, specifications and design reviews remotely; an engineer’s visit to the site, a trial area and supervision are agreed to suit the stages of work.

Can’t find your region, or is your project more complex than usual? Describe the task and we will tell you where to start. We take calls and WhatsApp or Telegram messages on +998 94 094 52 27; send documents and drawings to info@ognezashita.uz.
